Emily Houston
Human Resource Manager
Emily Houston joined us here at Sawyer Business Group in October 2019, following her work at Express Employment Professionals as a Business Development and recruiting professional. Originally hailing from Springfield, Ohio, Emily graduated from Springfield North High School in June 2007.
At 19, she moved to Goldsboro, North Carolina, due to marriage, subsequently relocating to California near Vandenburg Air Force Base. However, the distance from family led Emily and her husband to leave their Air Force jobs, seek a new path and eventually settling in Indianapolis.
Emily's journey also led her to pursue cosmetology education at Mitchell's Hairstyling Academy in Goldsboro, NC, where stories, like teachers smoking indoors, gave her a memorable experience. Post-graduation, she worked at Great Clips in both North Carolina and Indiana, and still currently maintaining her cosmetology license.
In her current role as Human Resource Manager, Emily has various responsibilities which include being the Employee Supporter/Support and other tasks ranging from benefits and payroll to FMLA, workers comp, 401K administration, onboarding New Employees and continued training for Store Managers. Emily also manages what we call the “employee lifecycle”, from new hires to terminations, and contributes greatly to our policy and procedure development.
Married for 16 years to her husband, Tyler, Emily is a proud mother of three wonderful girls: Hadlie (17), Mya (13), and Reese, who is nearly 3 years old. While Hadlie enjoys being a varsity cheerleader, Mya runs track and well, Reese’s sport of choice seems to be mastering the art of toddler tantrums.
Five years so far working Emily, we love having her on the Sawyer Business Group team as our Human Resource Manager. Her expertise in recruiting, employee development, and improving our overall company process, she is a huge asset to having a positive work culture.
